It’s been three years since Frank Ocean dropped his nostalgic debut album Channel Orange, causing many to wonder if the 27-year-old will ever craft another soul-searching masterpiece. The anticipation of another melancholy project from Ocean met its demise after he announced on his official Tumblr page that the release date for his new album, Boys Don’t Cry, would be July 20.

One the night of the album’s release date, fans took to Twitter and anxiously waited for one of the most anticipated projects of the year. When the album failed to make an appearance, fans weren’t having it.

From tweets to memes, many humorously expressed the death of the hopes they had towards the release the album. Because the album failed to debut, the heighten confusion led fans to ask, “what happened,” and “will the album be released?”

Although Boys Don’t Cry did not drop on the anticipated day, there is still a possibility that it will be released this year.
